The goal of the Unified Electric Vehicle Project is to develop an open-ended standards based method of converting gasoline powered vehicles into electric vehicles. This type of conversion will allow motorists to begin using cleaner electric vehicle technology without buying a new electric vehicle. Using a converted vehicle instead of a new vehicle will allow the majority of the converted vehicle to be effectively recycled. Just think about how many vehicles there are on the streets today. Does it seem like a good idea to drive them all to the dump and purchase a new electric vehicle? I didn’t think so either. Even if we did build the millions of recycling centers required to process those mountains of retired fossil fuel vehicles, we would still have plenty of vehicle owners with emotional ties to their favorite car, or car collection. An easy, safe, and inexpensive conversion method will be quite useful in years to come.
Northcutt Engineering in Tucson Arizona is currently undertaking the Unified Electric Vehicle Conversion Project. The focus of this project is to perfect the science of converting a vehicle to electric drive technology. Applying state of the art electrical, mechanical and physics engineering is essential to the success of this project.
